Personalized support in reading, writing, and math for children in Pre-K through 2nd grade.
Hi! I'm Winta Gebregergis (just call me Ms. Winta). I'm a certified Georgia Professional Educator and the founder of Race to Lrn, where I provide high-quality, in-person tutoring in reading, writing, and math for children ages 3-8. (References available upon request.)
I had the privilege of teaching at Georgia's first STEAM-certified school, where I contributed to its success until 2024, when I transitioned to privately tutoring students in Pre-K through 2nd grade.
I’ve taught kindergarten and 1st grade for several years, 2nd grade for four years, and 5th grade. I've also co-taught all grades from K–5. My goal is to help children gain a solid academic foundation in a supportive environment early on.
"Much scientific evidence has shown that students who have not learned foundational reading skills by the end of first grade are highly likely to experience chronic reading difficulties."
-LETRS, Science of Reading
Race to Lrn's mission is to provide high-quality, individualized reading, writing, and math tutoring during a child's foundational years, using strategies aligned with the Science of Reading. After each session, I provide an update on your child’s progress and share ways you can support their learning at home.
1. Initial Evaluation
I evaluate your child's knowledge of basic reading, writing, and math using research-supported assessments.
2. Personalized Plan
I analyze the results to pinpoint your child’s strengths and areas for growth and use that information to create a tutoring plan.
3. One-on-One Tutoring
Your child receives individualized instruction in a local setting.
4. Ongoing Parent Communication
You’ll receive a brief update on what was taught after every session.
I tutor children ages 3 to 8 in Tucker, Stone Mountain, Lilburn, and nearby Metro Atlanta cities. Sessions are 45 minutes long, twice a week. I have a few videos of 4- and 5-year-olds I’ve tutored on my YouTube channel (@racetolrn). Check them out, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
I’ve been a certified Georgia Professional Educator since graduating from Georgia State University in 2012. I also hold a Certificate of Mastery in LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling), an IDA-accredited program. I’ve taught kindergarten and 1st grade for several years, 2nd grade for four years, and 5th grade. In addition, I’ve co-taught all grades from kindergarten through 5th.
I tutored students in person and virtually after school while I was a classroom teacher. Their success—and the joy I found in tutoring—inspired me to begin tutoring full-time in 2024. While teaching kindergarten and first grade, I also saw how important it is for students to build a strong literacy and math foundation early.
